Homemade Coffee Creamer

In my post on saving money in the backyard I discussed how you can save hundreds of dollars a year by making your own coffee. Well some people, like my husband, really prefer the flavored creamers rather than the coffee. Coffee creamers can run you anywhere from 3 bucks to 8 bucks and they usually have corn syrups and hydrogenated oils, extremely bad for your health. I want to get you thinking about making your own, stretching your money, and saving your health. Grant it, this is still rather unhealthy in large quantities, it is perfectly acceptable in morning coffee as a treat.

For this creamer I used the raw cream I skimmed off a gallon of raw milk (about 2 cups), 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and 3 tablespoons of pure maple syrup.

Put a few spoonfuls in your coffee and it’s almost like having icecream coffee. You can get creative and use any milk or nondairy milk and even heavy cream or half and half as your base, then add a little sweetener of your choice, along with any flavoring you decide on. Don’t give up on creativity because you get bad results a few times, take notes of what could have gone wrong and make changes next time. The closer you are to being your own food supplier the healthier you will be. It does not happen quickly and it does require work but it is more than worth it.
